Celebrating English Designers
In honour of St George's Day, we're celebrating some iconic English furniture & product designers, past & present. There are so many to chose from but here are a few of our favourites.
"Design is a tool to enhance our humanity."
A pioneering humanistic designer, ensuring positive mental & environmental impact is at the forefront of her designs, helping us be better people. A collaboration with Ikea, allowed her tactile designs to be available to the masses.
Automotive engineer George Carwardine’s fascination with spring & lever based mechanisms led him to invent the iconic Anglepoise® lamp from his garden workshop in Bath. Now available in a huge range of colours & varieties, my grey/blue, has pride of place on my desk!
British designer of modern furniture and lighting. The chairs that come out of the Matthew Hilton Studio are just stunning. We love the Ando… look at the wood grain!
Tom Dixon, OBE
From untrained designer to global luxury design brand with hubs in London, Milan, Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles, New York, Tokyo and Hangzhou, Tom Dixon is one of the UK’s most successful designers today. This beautiful desk inspired by the “archetypical Victorian school desk” would be a pleasure to work at.
Jasper Morrison is one of today's most influential British product & furniture designers. Having collaborated with companies such as Alessi, Samsung, Muji & Ideal Standard, to name a few, his successful design career has been wide & varied. The Moca chair, produced by Vitra is understated & elegant, a particular favourite for us.
